Since you're talking about survive a semester, I'm assuming you're attending a college or university instead of learning on your own.
Aren't they structuring your learning path and you have to follow what they've put together, and you're not free to pick and choose what you want to learn or not? Or are you claiming you have enough free time on your hands beyond what they're teaching so you can learn more on your own while still attending those courses? 'cuz that sure wasn't the case in my time...

Mostly I don't attend the lectures, because I learn on my own with a long term goal so usualy I already know what it's taught and just go to exams to pass them and send my assignments. You now understand why I'm planning my future career path in second semester, because I don't want to learn my job on the job. I want to go to job knowing at least a half of what is required and ideally I want to find a job already in the last year of my college. I do college just for the paper, because I would never find a job after these three years with this knowledge. The lectures couldn't even prepare me for the my assignments so they surely will not prepare for my future job.

It would be extremely unusual for you to walk into a job and you happen to already possess exactly the knowledge you need to do it from end to end. In this field, you can't know it all. If you can at least demonstrate you're comfortable with what everyone takes for granted, and starting from there, have an ability to quickly learn and apply your newfound knowledge, you'll do fine. Just don't expect to be an expert in something on your starting day.

Trying to anticipate the market never seems to work ... that "job" always seems to require more alphabet soup than you have.
I "remade" myself about 15 years ago by taking on about 10+ "mickey mouse" freelance jobs over a period of months that added up to an impressive resume in the end; all remote; UK, Netherlands, New Zealand, US, Serbia, etc.
(Probably wouldn't impress the EU, but it did seem to fascinate North Americans).
Resulted in a number of big contracts. (Long term job) "stability" is no longer a requirement.
For one big interview, when they asked me to "tell about myself" I started in about playing bad golf, etc. Got the job without ever touching on IT.
Being unconventional helps (sometimes).

eenie miney moe - I hate to tell you this, but the only way you're going to figure out what you really want to do is to try something. After 40 years in the business, listen.
After 20 years in the business, you are going to reach "that point" where someone is paying you enough $$ to go off and do what you really want to do. I have been absolutely blessed the last 40 years. I get up in the morning and although the work is hard, I have fun. And they pay me.
Don't overthink it. You need a good grounding in the fundamentals, engineering teaches you how to solve problems, and learn to ask for help. Build a core group of people who challenge you, learn to get your feelings hurt. Those people you work with and have your back? Never betray them. We're not perfect, we all make mistakes, but people need to know they can depend on you. The rest will happen.

It's a word I've come across several times. Just now I couldn't remember it off the top of my head, but knew the type of word it was so assumed ended in "elia" and guessed started "para" but there weren't enough As; then stopped mucking about and just copy/pasted "seeing faces in the clouds" which Griff had so helpfully provided, to get Wikipedia's definition of pareidolia as top result.
Of course Griff's not confirmed yet, so might be entirely wrong!

Could be for reassurance - when ours gets worried he tends to be a lot closer than he normally is. Cats don't show pain, they tend to hide in the dark, get angry when you look for them, and hope it goes away instead. Is he eating?

The ESP32 is a little SoC with wifi and bluetooth, (usually) dual cores, and about 320kB of usable RAM, plus 4MB of flash for programs and data.
That's all well and good, and if you use FreeRTOS with it, you get multithreading and other more advanced features.
Great. However, the bluetooth software stack is relatively large. Using it, plus WiFi, plus Over The Air update support leaves basically no room for program code, so usually you have to choose between OTA and Bluetooth.
So Espressif, the folks that make this little widget went and released the WROVER model which i thought had 8MB instead of 4MB of program storage.
Nope.
It has 4MB of program storage, and (get this!) about 300+kB of core RAM + 4MB of PSRAM usable as RAM but a separate memory module and mem controller mapped over one of the SPI buses.
What is the point of having more RAM than non-volatile storage? Especially on a system where you already have to disable features to fit all of your program and data stuff into flash.
And who needs 4MB of RAM on a system like this anyway? The only real use case I can think of is an off screen frame buffer for graphics but it doesn't transfer fast enough from RAM to the display to make that worthwhile.
I'm at a loss. Why didn't they just map an extra 4MB of program storage instead of tying up a bus and giving us 4MB of RAM I have no earthly idea what to do with?
I only bought this little monster vs. the standard model because it comes with an integrated JTAG debug probe but i could do without the 4MB of RAM. I'll never use it.

And under Windows, there's virtual memory, meaning as much swap as there is discspace? Insert USB of 32 Gb.
The only real usage I can think for of 4 Mb is an ancient machine that should be torched. Please explain why it is important? In simpler terms?

This is an embedded system. It's a tiny system-on-a-chip meant for driving IoT creations.
It doesn't need 4MB of RAM. In fact I can't think of really any scenario where you'd need more RAM than non-volatile storage space on most any system. This WROVER kit has 4MB of program/data storage and just over 4MB of RAM
It's just silly, and if nothing else - lopsided. 8MB of flash + 4MB of RAM might be reasonable for certain scenarios but 4MB of flash + 4MB of RAM, what can anyone even do with that?

Software engineering is a really tough field 
I thought that I just hard work, and put more and more hours into learning and gradually become better and better, but my skills wll be soon irrelevant anyway so there is not even a chance to stand out from the crowd of the programmers becuase you I have to start over and over with new languages, frameworks and skills... 
My colleauge has lowest entrance requirements and I'm still avarage so I don't have anything to show on exams either except avarage knowledge
