I'm currently paying more for my car than my house each month 
My house is pretty big, my car is a mid-range (Opel Corsa) and I drive less than 1000 km a month.
I hate cars, but unfortunately, I can't do without

I took my first car - taken over from my mom, it was umpteeen years old - to the NAF (the Norwegian parallel to AAA in the US) workshop for the bi-annual safety test mandated by the EU. When I picked it up, the service man told me that he was truly impressed by the car: It was completely run down in every single aspect he had checked - and it was still running! If I spent money on removing all the rust, maybe the brakes would fail the following week. I could fix that, and next week the ages old battery might fail. And so on.
So he told me that the best thing to do with that car was to take it behind the barn and shoot it.

My dad gave me his car, a 1973 Ford Gran Torino station wagon. I could fit at least dozen people in there when going to the drive-in movie theater, it was $5 or $10 per car to get in. I had it while in college, at some point the radiator started leaking, thankfully it was during an almost record cold winter  and I could drive where I needed to go without the car overheating without a drop of antifreeze. Had to drive with the windows rolled down to keep the frost on the windows minimized. Towards the end of that winter the gas tank sprung a big leak... Got $25 from the auto wreckers, when they came and towed it away.

My dad works in the transport and drives Toyota Hiace 90's models and I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to drive that

Mine was 13 years old and that was a long, long, long, long time ago. Actually sold it for more than I paid ($75/$125). I am to the left of the pond so the car survived with the help of the Pep Boys.

I'd like this arm to be able to put the monitor in any combination of location & orientation that I feel like (no more than 3 feet total spread needed), and of course be VESA compatible. If it matters, I'd like to have it be able to be attached to the wall at a stud location.

It's attached to a piece of wood which is held in place against the wall by my desk via a couple of slots.
Sounds a bit Heath Robinson, I know - but it works well!

Mine is attached to the desktop but:
When looking for good arms for my 2 monitors I saw AMAZON BASICS have great products, quite similar to much more expensive ones. Mines are from them and work very well.
