It's a good article. I've certainly suffered pain from using a primitive type when more abstraction was called for.

It links to an older post about "primitive obsession" which uses a zip code as an example, saying that making it a type prevents inappropriate values from being assigned. As it turns out, that's a really bad example. If you have accounts and credit cards in the US but live outside the country, institutions that can't handle anything other than nnnnn (or nnnnn-nnnn) zip codes are a royal buttpain. When I'm in the US and use a US-based credit card at a gas station and have to punch in my zip code, the answer is 00001. There's no such zip code, but it's what one major bank uses for non-residents.
