Hi
I've searched in several places but not in luck. I must add a new feature on a 'legacy' ASP3 application (don't have time to migrate it), and I want do it using a web service, because this new feature will be used on a win32 app. too.
Anyone my help me?

I am writing a web service application for a windows server and am wondering if there is anything I MUST provide for? Can I just write my application and load it up in the service manager and run it?
Also, it is going to recieve commands from a servlet running on a linux box over a LAN. Can a service just open a socket and listen for input?

Web services are usually exposed by the web server, or by an app server (in the case of Java web services) that expose the service on an HTTP or HTTPS port. No need to open a socket since web requests are passed to the web service via the web/app server. On Windows 2000, XP, 2003 servers, this means IIS and ASP.NET handle the web service requests, unless you're using an alternative web server/app server to handle web services.

Setting up appropriate Keywords and Description metatags is the first step; next, you have to use said keywords repeatedly throughout the web page in question. They should appear in image alt text fields, the page's text body, ... the list goes on. Next you have to submit the site to the various directory/search sites.
Check out MS's SubmitIt service. It has a feature that will scan your pages for correct keyword usage and check that they are used in the correct frequency/places. Once you have the pages ready, it'll submit it to all the major engines on a monthly basis. It's not too expensive - I think it's like $80 for three URL's for 1 year.

Actuall meta tags won't help. They have been abused so much that most search engines ignore them.
Having the keywords mentioned repeated in your page is a better effort.

Just a thought... If you really don't want all those keywords in your page to be displayed, do the search engines still respond to them if they're buried in hidden input fields of invisible forms?

No; some engines will bounce your listing if you're using, say, black text on a black background to skew the keyword counts.

is there anyway to change these filters programitcally?
i have a site that serves up data from a database, and i have the ii6 gzip filter on
problem is i have a background application that updates the database periodically, and during these updates the cpu usage is too high with gzip on, and response times suffer...
is there anyway to script the gzip filter on and off?
the updater app is a C# winforms app, but i could easily call a script of some sort...

I am writing application for palm which is purely using html nothing more (Not JavaScript, vbScript or any other because it does know any). I have a listbox (which is produced by tags) which has 2 or 3 options to choose from. Now user can select any item, but how can I submit? Is there anyway to do so? Your help will be very much appreciated.

I am using MSHTML editor for a content management system.
I am using so e custom tags within the HTML code that can be edited throught the MSHTML Editor. Is there a way to display a friendly image on for the custom tag during design time?

The problem is that you need a ADO Recordset, before to set rs to cn.Execute you must create the objet, like this
