Anyone written a custom button that looks like the "Open" button in the common file open dialog in Word2000? On the right of the button is an arrow that when pressed brings up a menu, however when any other part of the button is pressed the button asks normally.

Hi All,
In my app I need to send e-mail directly.
I use Simle MAPI for that and it works fine.
The problem is that want to send formatted text.
When I tried to set the message text to HTML text some e-mail programs (Like Eudora Pro) rendered it fine.
However other e-mail programs (Outlook and Outlook Express) do not render it and just show the html source.
I know that there is a way to send formatted text since Word does it.
I already called Microsoft Tech Support and they couldn't give me an answer.
Can anyone help?

Hi Eli,
you cannot send formatted text with Simple MAPI by default (although some mail readers parse it correctly), because you cannot specify the format of the content in Simple MAPI. With Extended MAPI you can specify the encoding of the message body (text/HTML or text/RTF).
For a sample, see Microsoft's MSDN online (search.microsoft.com/us/dev/) and search for article "Q216344".

I have a simple soucecode. I should not be a problem to implement it with MFC once you understand how it works (unfortinally the reverse is not so easy. MFC to simple function)
Why does the program use other y pos than it was assigned?
Sleep can solve bugs that is hard to find.
Remove the comment to se the effect of sleep.

hello
how can i biuld an application for fetching row from a large database (1000's rows) a constant number of rows (25 or 50) and put those rows into a listview and when the scroll is down fetch next group of rows
it is posible to use an sql cursor (i use a sql server for database)?

Derive your class from CButton. Then you have to guarantee that your button is always created using BS_OWNERDRAW style (if button is created explicitely using Create() function you might override PreCreateWindow() in order to do that, otherwise when button is being subclassed, e.g. in DDX/DDV engine, you have to override PreSubclassWindow() and put there an assert that checks for BS_OWNERDRAW style).
As long as BS_OWNERDRAW style is set Windows will send your button WM_DRAWITEM message in which you have to draw the button. MFC provides virtual DrawItem() function that you need to override in order to handle WM_DRAWITEM message.
From this point you are on your own in terms of providing drawinf implementation and handling the mouse and keyboard input in any specific way (of course, if you need to).
Above mentioned details of implementation are valid only if you use MFC in your development. Using straight SDK you would need to take basically the same steps. But of course you need to handle all corresponding messages (WM_CREATE, WM_DRAWITEM) explicitly in your window procedure.

In any case, it might be safer to use the old dialog box, unless you are planning to make your program only W2000 compatible. The other option is to use an OS check and open a different box for each setting...however, this might complicate things depending on how the API for the new boxes works. It may auto-detect for you, but you never know. Best thing is to get the docs from MS and then implement it.

New Open File dialog is available only on Windows 2000 and in order to use it you have to use new version of OPENFILENAME structure that is defined in platform SDK 2000 as following:

I desperately want a class that does a couple of specific things. It's a personal thang - I'm writing an app that will be freeware, but it's such a challenge that I'm almost willing to pay for the help! I'm tired of hunting for info, and hackiong for results. I can't get my head round the bitmap structires enough to write my own functions - hence a public request for a class.
I want it to:
~ be derived from CDC so that I can draw & blit to it, etc
~ be able to load from and save to 8,16,24 and 32bit DIBs
~ flip (mirror vertically)
Any takers?? If so, I have an existing CDIB class that does nearly all of the above and will send it to anyone who wants it.

The easiest thing to do would be to modify your CDIB class to use a DIBSection instead of direct memory - the only thing to change here would be the way you allocate your memory - but you probably use Global Alloc any way so that too shouldnt matter. I have a DIB class which i attach to a DibSection everytime i want to use one of the GDI functions to draw into the DIB . If you have a problem, let me know at rrajivram@hotmail.com and Ill try to send you a stripped down version which will show you the way.
