Hi,
I'm having problems with
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"
that it works fine with up to ca 100k files but after that it just "time-out" or something.. i.e nothing after 3 minutes (default timeout on webserver). I've tried to increase timeout value on www server (IIS5) but that didn't help.
Any suggestions or IS there a limit of how big files you can send through ContentType?

An application I am working on streams files of several MB out of a database blob and to a browser. They have been only been Word doc files, but I would assume that all file types are handled the same.
Here is a snip of the code I use:

Response.AddHeader "content-disposition", StrContentDisp

I also had odd problems until I started doing the .AddHeader to declare the document to be inline and pass the filename. The snippet above has worked smoothly ever since.
Obviously the recordset and binarywrite may not be needed for your situation, but they can be substituted out easily enough.
I am using IIS5 and MSSQL2k and ASP3, just for reference.

it helped alot, i solved my problem by increasing script timeout value though.. not a good solution but i thank you for this snippet of code.

I have been thinking about the server side controls in ASP.NET and was wondering of anybody is planning to use them as they seem to offer some benefits. They are also in ASP, yet as far as I know, they are not widely used, certainly I have never come across it.
Should I just carry on writing ASP scripts but take advantage of the compiled code in ASP.NET, or should I be looking to change the way I develop web apps?
What are other people planning to do?

AFAIK, you can't do this using *just* HTML. You have to use some sort of server scripting language and a mailing component. ASP supports this functionality if you're a Windows guy, or if you're on *nix, PHP does this *very* easily (1 function call).

Indeed... you're going to need more than just HTML. Try searching at google for formmail. Or.. you could learn PHP.. which is nice.

If you are using Windows, the component to use is cdonts. You can create a new mail object with the line
set mail = server.createobject("cdonts.newmail")

Best thing that I can recommend is that you pick up a good book on the subject.
My 2 personal favourites are:
o XML for ASP.NET Developers
[ does an excellent job in explaining XSLT and XPath ]
o XSLT 2nd Edition (Worx Press)

Okay I've got a small ASP app that has half a dozen .ASP pages, a couple of HTML pages and a COM exe. This is all running on my IIS server. How do I create an installer to install onto another IIS server?
Does Installshield handle this?
Any pointers or articles will be appreciated.

I have the following XML file:

I want to create a select list of all the names of my jobs.
I have the following code to produce such a list, but as I have a lot of jobs, I want the list to be alphabetical.
Is there an easy way of doing this?

I think you can use a XSL to sort the xml, using xsl:sort
search de MSDN for xsl:sort you have an example there.
To apply the XSL you could use something like this:
set oDom = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.DomDocument")
oDom.LoadXML( sXML )
set oDomXSL = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.DomDocument")
oDomXSL.LoadXML( sXSL )
SortXML = oDom.TransformNode( oDomXSL )

I'm wanting to provide a plug in from a web page. This is for the benefit of users who download files from the site which are PGP encrypted. The plug in needs to find their PGP stuff and decrypt incoming files fairly transparently.
The initial web page should check to see if the plug-in is in place and, if not, offer to install it. These customers are required to use IE5 5 or above. Their PC setup is, I gather, fairly requlated.
I suspect the appropriate kind of plug in is a mime type filter whick IE5 seems to support.
I can see, in outline, what's needed and I've come accross tantalising scraps of information on MSDN but I really need some kind of overall guide to working this trick. I guess the approach will work through a java Applet which then asks for permission to access local files, intalls a DLL into the PLUGINS directory and then registers it, somehow with the system and with IE.

Sadly I have a HTML/ASP based database project to do and I can't use ASP.NET and C#.
What is the best IDE for developing ASP applications? Is there anything apart from Visual Interdev which handles ASP well?

I swear by Macromedia Homesite. It offers project management and syntax highlighting, but other than that, it is really just a fancy notepad. In the way of ASP, all it really does is show you pretty colors when you insert the ASP tags. Nevertheless, if you do a lot of webdesign and you code raw HTML, Homesite is definitely worth the investment.

I'll second that!
I use Homesite almost exculsively.
InterDev has some nice ASP specific features, but I have never really gotten comfortable with it.

Hi there guys. The XML menus, that flyoutmenus if you go to www.microsoft.com/technet, can somebody tell me how they do that. I know they use XML and I did take alook at it. But I don't know how to do it in another website.There is also a file they use default.htc. I need help here please. I want to design a website that have the same flyoutmenus.

I am very new (a few days) to javascript but have many years of C/C++ background.
I have successfully used some COM controls that I wrote (all arguments were variants)
I would like to use some of the common controls in a web page. The target is only using IE and NT machines.
Can anyone point me to where I may get information on what methods with argument lists are usable from a javascript perspective. I have the MSDN library but am not being successful on how to format the calls so the method/property is supported. Below is a trivial example using the Tree Control (that does not work.)
Again I do not just want to make this work but understand what I can and cannot do.
