Nice, Join(..) seems to be the replacement to WaitForSingleObject(..).
But what if I have to wait for multiple threads? What is the replacement for WaitForMultipleObject(..)?

Have a look at System.Threading.ManualResetEvent
That might help you out.

Hi !
Is it possible to run the application server of a 3 tier application local or not with using remoting ?
I am thinking of an application which has the option to run the businessrules local from a service or from the application server somewhere else. there should be just a switch in the config to switch from local app server to the app server in the lan/internet. something i have seen on navision axapta. there you can switch from thin to rich client. is this a stupid idea ? how would the local service look like ? local iis ? is it possible ? would be very thankful for any links or examples, suggestions.
thanks thomas
i'am from austria sorry for my english

Hi
I working out some class where contained methods which use
interfaces as parameters.All compiled and working fine, but when i make reverce engenering through Visio UML, i get an error for this methods:
UMLE00046: vcCodeElement[Parameter] : [Parameter - WFR1] - An interface cannot be used as the type of a parameter.
Why it so???
Maybe i ask question not in proper place, but here hadn't UML forum, cause if somebody know forums for Visio UML please give me a link.
Thank.

Hi!
Using interfaces as parameter types is perfectly OK, don't let Visio fool you.
Although I can't tell you if or how Visio can be configured to allow for this constellation at least I can assure you that it's Visio's fault if it can't be modelled there and the error is unjustified.

Converting a string displayed in one language to other language
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Whatever string which I provide in one language should be converted and displayed in other language which I specify.
I am aware of System.globalization and System.Resources and the classes
CultureInfo[CurrentCulture and CurrentUIculture] and ResourceManager. I was able to display the dateformats etc as per the change in culture, but I couldn't convert a string in one language to another. In net also I couldn't find any application which do the convertion of string.
I would like to have the source code for current requirement which I have mentioned. If you can do this thing without using satellite assemblies then it would have been helpful.

er? are u saying that NET will interpret ur string in language A to a string in language B? There is no such class that can do that, and as a matter of fact there is probably no commercial software that can actually do that without numerous errors.
What u can do is localize ur application in as many languages as u want, but you will have to specify all the strings in the different languages yourself, and the app will display the correct language based on the current culture info the app is running in.
Check out info about Localizing in MSDSN:

Hi,
I have a very strange problem here.
I created an application (Windows Form) that use MS SQL for its database, and inside the application, I used crystal report to create a report.
I install the application to one of the computer on the network.
The computer uses Windows 98, and the application and the report runs okay.
And then I install the same application again to another computer running Windows 98.
But this time, when I open the report, the application runs in error.
Other than the report, the application runs okay.
My question is, why with the same application and same windows 98, one is working and the other don't?
Please someone kindly give any help or hint.
Thank you very much in advance.

How apply own DataGridColumnStyle to DataGrid of binding with relation table?

Can anyone tell me how to compress the audio in an AVI file from PCM to MP3. Do I have to convert the PCM to MP3 first and then compress it? I've been trying to figure this out for about a month, with no luck. I'm trying to write a video editor that cuts commercials from captured TV programs in C#, with the help of AVIFile. Any help or code in C++ or C# will be appreciated.

hi gurus,
When I press "Del" button in a TextBOx Cell within a DataGrid, the whole row of the Data Table is deleted. I am sure I have not add "KeyPress" event to the Grid, does any one know what causes the problem?
Thanks in advance.
PS:
I'm using a third-Party Grid Control: GridDataBoundGrid control (from Essential Grid). However,
I believe this has nothing to do with my problems.

I disagree: it seems something specific to this control. I suggest you to contact them about this, or if you need a workaround, you can always derive from this control and override the ProcessCmdKey method, disabling the Del key on the grid while you're editing something.
Yes, even I am blogging now!

Thanks for your advice!
I found that the grid control inherits "KeyPress" event from control.OnKeyPress, which accepts any Key event smoothly unless "Del" (as far as I know), because "Del" is not in ASCII code. As you adviced, I disabled this key, by set "EnableRemove" property as false so "del" key doesn't work. I have to derive this control to use this button.

I'm a total newbie in the land of C#, Visual Studio, .NET, and all-things-Microsoft. I'm trying to do a number of things with a C# application that has a builtin web browser (AxSHDocVw.AxWebBrowser). Most of the code I've inherited from someone else who knew a lot more about this stuff than I do, so I'm barely treading water at the moment.
If anyone can help shed some light on the following things, I'd be very grateful.
1) Is there a way to control the browser to not display until DocumentComplete has been called (i.e. READYSTATE_COMPLETE)? I want the page to *not* show anything until it's fully loaded, and can't figure out how to do this.
2) Is there a way to modify the UserAgent sent by the browser? Some of the docs have suggested (at least in C++ land) that in the Navigate() method I can postpend to the header argument to add things, such as the user agent. However, I'm not sure that a) this works, or b) what the appropriate syntax is in calling this from C#. I've tried just throwing in a string argument, but am not 100% sure of the syntax, nor did it seem to affect anything.
I've also seen:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q183412/
but don't know how I can do something similar in my project.
3) I've tried, unsuccessfully, to make a call to create a desktop shortcut using IWshRuntimeLibrary. Here's my code:
WshShell shell = new WshShell();
IWshShortcut link = (IWshShortcut)shell.CreateShortcut(title);
link.TargetPath = url;
link.Save();
This always throws an exception, even when the app is being run by an administrator account. It's a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException, and the message is just "Exception occurred." I took this code directly from:
http://www.codeproject.com/dotnet/shelllink.asp
Any idea what might be going wrong here?
Thanks much. Sorry if these questions are too broad. Let me know if I can be more specific.

Is there any way to install it using c#?
please help if u can..
Thanks

You don't. This normally means that there is a problem with either your code or your Access installation, MDAC, VB installation, ... Check out this search result[^] on MSDN.

The problem is that I am sourcing various numbers from a machine. The numbers are like 1.00006587 and 0.000248. The problem is that I need to round off the last decimal so for example if 1.00006587 is given the result would be 1.00007
Help please!

Math.Round allows you to specify how many decimals to round to.

That's correct.
But Math.Round uses the bankers algorithm for rounding. So 3.45 returns 3.4 instead of 3.5.
Be wary of that. If you need to have normal rounding (I mean the one we learn in school) then you'll need to implement your own custom rounding procedure. Which is fairly easy.
Furthermore it's wise that you choose for the Decimal type instead of Single or Double type because these types are approximations and would give rounding errors quite quickly.
Kind regards
