To mention a few:

I take it that you can take one of those and modify it to meet you requirements.

To add to what Mika said - don't even try to do this in SQL: this is a presentation function, not a data retrieval function and needs to be handled in your presentation software. SQL is not good at (or designed for) string manipulation, it is designed to store and organise data efficiently. Presentation languages are much better at such manipulations.
