How to create VSIX template with ASP.NET 5 project

I am following the instruction found https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd885241.aspx.

I can see that the template installed successfully but when I try to create a new project from the template the project is created but it is empty.

Is there something unique about ASP.NET 5 I need to address?
