When I install a program on a computer I am given a choice of where to install it. I can then view the files in the directory where the program is.

But on my tablet I just install the apps and have no idea where they are. Can someone tell me how to access these files? Do I need a special app to do so?

Thank you in advance.

No, the applications have access to their own data folders and files. It is right there in the Internal memory. But, do you need to access the software package (.apk)?

You can see them by using the Android Debug Bridge, when the device is connected to your PC. ADB is installed with Android Studio, or the eclipse Android SDK. Take a look at some of the articles at http://www.codeproject.com/KB/android/#Android+Tutorial+Contest[^] for more detials.
