How do you read a binary file into a linklist?

I have already created node class(e.g. Student class) and nodelist class(e.g.Studentlist class) which is to contain the method to read data from a binary file(e.g. a.dat) into the nodelist. I was successful in reading a normal text file but for a binary file its difficult as i got EOF exception and other errors. Programming language used is Java
