Don't even think about it!

Unless you have a significant number of LED's (say at least 64 in a 8 by 8 matrix per character) the results will be horrible. A single character "D" on your screen takes 64 pixels to display (at the default size). Depending on the font the results can be unreadable when translated.

Create your own (or Google for "LED character set" or similar and use that: you can get a readable display with a 5x5 matrix if you are careful (5 x 7 is much better, though)

I remember first article. I don't know if it converts a character from font, but I trust you, my 5.
(I know very well it's possible.)
