sms alert on windows PC via AT commands

suppose I connect a mobile phone with a windows PC via usbcable/bluetooth. Is there any way that when an sms arrives on the mobile phone, I could write a code (preferably in Matlab) using AT commands to extract the sms on my PC and can store it in a variable?
