To what tag are you referring? Just in case you've never used it, google is a free search engine that can provide MILLIONS of links that explain whatever tage you're trying to talk about.

I googled "asp.net mysterious tag" and got back over 2.3 million results[^].

Where is the tag ?

Any way if you are talking about master page.Then first i wanna tell you that there are millions of related topics on google.But to tell you in general about it.Well master page is a page that is used to show part of website which should appear in all pages such as menu.And inside this master page comes all the other pages which we call content pages,and they are placed inside the content place older inside the master page.
