How can many rows of a table, all of which are identical to the same code at once updated.

Depends on the Where clause.

If, say, there are five rows that have the same column values in the Where clause you are using, all 5 will be updated.

Whether this is correct or not, of course, will depend on your business needs and what you are trying to do.
