What do you mean by this? Do you mean which program is used on the server to compress files ? Use "Improve Question" to add more details.

There are millions of sites around the world; how would anyone know the answer to this?

1 solution

You cannot reliably check this from the client side, acting as the client of a Web application. Roughly speaking, you can only guess that GZIP is used if some text on the site says: "the data you post will be packed with GZIP" :-).

If GZIP is used, it can only be reasonably used on server-side, not in client side. What happens on server-side remains totally invisible to the client. The client only sends HTTP requests and receive responses which delivers HTML pages, downloading files and other resources.

Your question looks quite suspicious to me. In what situation anyone would need what is used on any sites. To sue their owners or what? :-)
Do you really understand what exactly you need and why?
