You don't search the gridview you search the datasource it is bound to.

What details do you want to edit?

we hv d details in d gridview rite like name,address,id etc i want to pick out jst names with specific patterns with all d details of that particular name.. is it possible in grid view?

As I have said, you don't search the grdiview, you search the data source it is bound to. You can display the results any way you would like
