I want to read a file from a remote machine in a LAN.
How can I do this? Please help me with any tips you have.

We can't really give you much help here - there are so many things that could get in your way.
But...

1) The file needs to be in a folder which is accessible outside the machine. This may mean in a Shared Documents Folder, or a folder specifically shared for the purpose.
2) The source PC may need file sharing turned on.
3) You may need a user name and password to access it.

If it isn't a PC (or you aren't using the same version of the OS) it may well get harder to do.

Look at your topography, and edit your question - at the moment that is justy way too "open" a question to give a meaningful answer.

Again, pickup a book on Windows Networking and read through it. You have no idea what you're doing, and that's a dangerous thing...
