Hi sir,

i have install sqlserver 2005 express edition in windows 7 64 bit os but can't install i got the following error

"none of the selected features can be installed or upgraded.setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine"
plz help me how to slove this error

Solution 1

Unless something is wrong with the installer, you already have SQL 2005 Express installed and the installer is going into the maintenance mode.

Select some other features!

What it is saying is: "SQL server is already installed and the options you have selected are the same as the current installation"
So it won't do anything to your installation!

Solution 3

You probably have sqlserver and sqlserver express installed. To solve you would need to uninstall both using "Add or Remove Program" and reinstall sqlserver. Maybe you could try "Change" first instead of removing it, maybe you are in luck and get done just enough that way.

ok already install sqlserver 2008 and 2005 also i uninstall both of them now install sqlserver 2005 i got the this error how to clear this error

Are you sure you uninstalled all sql server versions (including the express edition)? This error is given because the installer cannot find the corresponding sql server version (with this I mean the version the installer found somehow and considered the version that needs to be updated). What happens if you try installing these components using 2008?
