Prompt(notification) when device connected to HDMI

Hi guys,
I wanna ask simple question :

How to prompt me (give me return value such as "true", "1", or else) when my device connected to HDMI? So,I can perform several instruction when my device connected to HDMI.

Well, I need it to be dynamic solution, 'coz I need to use it for several device (eg. Motorola Xoom and LG P990).
