how to call either new activity or a new fragment on button click embedded in a fragment

i have developed an application in which i have used an actionbar,whenever the actionbar tab is clicked a relevant fragment opens in the main activity,one of the fragment contains two buttons and i want to open either new activity or new fragment on that button click,i have gone through many tutorials but did not find the relevant solution,so help me with your knowledge.thanks!
