Such kind of question cannot be really correct. Why anyone should proof the purpose? Why do you think such things might even need some justification? Even though the motivation for such software is pretty obvious and I think makes sense, the only proper answer to your question would be another question, like "why not?!".

However, nothing will give you complete answer. If your concern is based on the fact that you are already satisfied with one of existing OS, but the only reason for such satisfaction could be the lack of information. All optimists are exactly like pessimists, only poorly informed. :-)
