SharePoint's new item template customization

In my sharpoint web site,I need to create a list.List contain one drop down column.Depending on this drop down selection I want to show/hide another columns in the New Item template.
Is it possible in SharePoint?
I think we can do by using SharePoint Designer.
Can any one confirm?

Yes you can do this using SharePoint designer conditional formating.
