Hi

I would like to develop an application to manage a wireless hot spot. This application is meant to track the amount of data that each user downloads and deducts this from the amount data purchased.I am new to network programming and would like to know whether this is possible & how it can be it achieved. What concepts do I need to read on. I am very keen to learn but at the moment I need some one to show me what I need to read on.

I would start with basic network programming, how traffic gets passed around, how wireless networks differ from wired networks. You could search places like sourceforge for network monitoring tools and take a look through their source code.

I've not attempted to do this, but there are definitely open source network monitoring tools.
