CutePDF cannot do anything with a printer driver by definition. It can only use the one or another driver available in the system. The software can misuse the printer interface in some cases; this is something I don't know, but it certainly don't have a "driver" you could possibly blame.

By the way, I recently got read of Adobe PDF reader which I really hate. So, I tried out some alternatives and have chosen the champion, open-source Sumatra PDF:

On Linux, Evince is good enough, but it was malfunctioning badly on Windows.
