Hi,

I just want to install SQL Server 2012 on a mid-spec laptop for doing fairly basic stuff (learn SQL / create databases to test code with / maybe write an application to read from the DB). I've heard that the Developer Edition has everything (if I wanted to do reports etc) that the Enterprise edition has.

I've read the specs for both but just wondering if I install the Developer Edition would it slow down my laptop by much (would processes be running every time I switch the laptop on)?

Cheers.

Brian.

I have SQL Server installed on my laptop and my desktop and I don't see any appreciable decline in performance. Yes, the processes run everytime your computer runs, but unless you are doing database operations on it then it shouldn't take much of any processor time.

It should only hog your computer as much as you are interacting with it, unless you set up a lot of backup jobs to run continuously you shouldn't notice any problems.
