Ok I need this for development purposes obviously. Compatibility view (f12) on IE10 DOES NOT work for this because it will not read respond.js for media queries or html5.js for HTML5 tags..

I need the "real" IE8 to run on Windows 8. BUT I can not run VM either because it crashes my computer and I can't even connect to the internet while it's running. VirtualBox is the vm I'm using. I DO NOT want to use a vm...

Is there any add on made for IE10 or something? I just bought this stupid $1,000 Windows 8 laptop and totally regret it since it gives me so many problems when developing. I don't want to buy a mac.. I'm ready to buy a linux based computer solely for development. But I really rather just stick with this expensive laptop I bought.

Is there any workaround at all?..

I perfectly understand you. My own view on this OS version is very skeptical. However, I would say your question off-topic. This site is devoted to computer science and software development problems, but you are experiencing problems at the level of the regular system user.
Besides, who needs IE? :-) And who needs "compatibility mode"? Just to view totally lame sites?

It is for development purposes because when developing websites, I need to test in IE8.. I'm sure a lot of Windows 8 developers run into this problem. So I feel it is relevant. D:

Not really answering to OP's question but useful, a 5.

Seems as if this program won't read respond.js so IE8 can understand media queries.. This program isn't acting like it's actually the real ie8, just a prototype like how IE10 displays IE8.. it wont read the if ie8 conditional tags or anything.

Actually this does work =) Respond.js won't load locally. It has to be on a live server for some odd reason!

In past I have used this tool for browser compatibility check so I thought it could be alternative for you.
