How do I create web service on Sql server 2008 to connect from PHP web page

Hi everybody,
I have an database on sql server 2008. I want to show data on PHP web page. Someone advice me to create web service on sql server side. And then call that web service from PHP page. So how can I do start. I don't know about web service on sql. Please, give me help your suggestion and sample code for message from database like that Hello World from table of sql server by using web service. Thanks you all.
