Chat Application in java

Hi guys,

I am a newbie in java, and I am now build a chat application in java. I went through some tutorials, and found some good sample however, most of them they broadcast message from sender to all receiver.

What I need is a sender could chat only with his friends, Do i need to create array list of socket??

Any suggestions?
