Hi all,

My friend planned to do a course in Sharepoint, he asked me about it.
I dont have any idea about the sharepoint except I used it sometimes.
So i suggested not to depend on it, instead do a course in .Net.

Then only i thought here is the right place to ask this one, so i came here with this question

Doing the course in Sharepoint will make his future a pleasant one.
How much opportunities are there in Sharepoint?

My friend already has 1+ exp in .Net will that help him further?

Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated.

SharePoint is a rapidly emerging field and with the launch of SP2013 which has lot of stuffs integrated, making it great enterprise tool, you can be assured of great future opportunity. But having sound .net knowledge with JavaScript(JQuery) will obviously enhance your skill and provide better opportunity.

So, I would suggest to keep growing on .Net and also start off SharePoint2010, because I personally have found lot of requirement for people having experience in .Net + SharePoint. That will prepare you being highly demanded resource

PS: I myself had 1 yr of .Net exp after which I switched to SharePoint and I am happy with the opportunity at hand.

Thanks for your valuable comments, now am little bit clear. But one thing i want to clarify with you... Spending 18k to do a course in Sharepoint would it make sense?

I would not suggest to invest so much right now for the training(not sure how much that would do good for you). But you should start hands on (there are several virtual labs from Microsoft, even installing SharePoint in VM would help). And once you are little bit comfortable with the environment YOU SHOULD GO FOR MCTS CERTIFICATION 70-573
