Conic Sections and the Double-Napped Cone: Apollonius of Perga, Rene Descarte, History of Mathematics etc.

I always thought Co-Ordinate Geometry had something to do with the Conic Sections’ being defined based on the Double-Napped cone. I had always felt that Rene Descarte was the one who made that decision.
