Install the drivers (at least, if not the extra software too) and see if it gets detected after that.
My X-Fi worked just fine in the W10 (for values of fine).

Well, that's the thing...the card in question is working fine in the older W10 system. When time allows, I'll bring it back up and check what drivers it's using...as far as I remember, I didn't have to install anything originally for it to work from a fresh install of W10.

If it came with the mobo I suspect it probably is locked to it, although in the past when I've seen that done they'd generally do something weird (eg the card and its slot used a backwards PCIe connector) so you couldn't actually plug it into anyone else's board.

I'm thinking this may be the case which is why I went shopping locally for a new one...the local chains have all quit keeping them in stock...plenty of video cards but not one sound card! 
If indeed that is the case, it's the first time I've encountered a plug-in component for a specific mobo maker.
I suppose I'll have to order one online, or hit one of he specialty shops around town. Of course, there is still the possibility that there is a problem with the slot but I have no way of knowing without spending a little change...and waiting.

After stealing recipes from The Kitchen King[^], most enjoyably the gulyas[^] (and do garnish with the cream as suggested!), I've now tried tasted a recipe as suggested[^] by MunchiessMatt.
First, it looked cool and relaxed when it was made; there's not a lot of stirring going on once it is in the pot. If you're Dutch and looking for the galangal, you can order it online here[^]. Kaffir leaves can be ordered here[^]. There's some safety-warnings in the video that Matt linked to, be sure to heed them.
It was delicious. We had some Turkish bread as a side instead of rice, which was great to mop up all those juices 
If you haven't tried the drowned chicken or the gulyas then be sure to give it a try on a slow sunday. Getting the herbs is the hardest part, but I'm pretty sure I'll be making this again. If anyone else has a recipe to share, I'll try them all. At least those containing ingredients that can be legally obtained

Well, it is actually 'underwater' chicken, because a pan of cold water is put on top of the cooking pan, to condense the juices back in.
But yeah, those juices, they are something to behold!
Did the kitchen have almost no smell when it was cooking? That ius what I found. All the flavour was staying in the pot, resulting in an incredible flavour profile.
I got my recipe off hotthaikitchen, if you want thai food, I can recommend it, it has a lot of recipes.

It's good to vary, and it is nice to have something completely different now and then. For normal meals, I'll try to use local materials. Also because it is half the price of stuff that is brought from afar

But those mail order herbs and spices do last a long time I find, even using them in reasonable quantity.
The only one I have really ripped through, because it is so damn versatile, is Thai sweet basil. I use it in a lot of Indian recipes too, like vadas and bhajis.

It is staggeringly healthy, and incredibly tasty. SO tasty it leaves you feeling full, even though you arent always.
I dont eat breads, admittedly, or noodles, or white rice mind you, to keep it low GI.
But the spices too, one reads every day that turmeric is good, garlic and onions, chillies.
The meat is either chicken or fish, so zero fat pretty much. And I generally use plain oil for frying.
If I need something like flour there is chick pea flour, good source of protein, and brown rice flour. Again low GI.
It is also a high fiber diet, loads of veg, salads, etc.
It is good all over, and damn tasty. WHat more can you want!
