I've streamlined a bit over the last couple years...

started the PC today, noticed a quiet rattle (normally in church mouse territory), figured it was a fan.
anyhoo shone me torch into it, see if something obvious like a cable that's shifted, ran a stress test to try and pick which fan, they sped up / slowed down as expected, nothing obvious except: on cool down the CPU fan slowed to a stop then even ran backwards before slowly starting again!!
but hang-on, CPU temps aren't going up, still going down???
stress test again, (if it didn't break the first time try harder) ...same thing.
during cool down CPU fan stopping, backwards and forwards.
then... looking at it closer, TA DA! huge relief!!
das blinken lichten!! ... torch (LED) frequency and fan rotation hitting dem happy harmonics.
LED torches look like steady light but are actually flashing on and off, however doing that faster than eyes can perceive. (and usually the cheap china torches blink way slower but still too fast for they eye to see - which is also why these lights often look weird on videos & photos.
as to the rattle - case fan, bearing/spindle wear (it's only 1 year old), but still working well albeit with that wee rattle (barely heard even without music on).
... plenty enough time to [order online and] replace at my 'leisure' (i.e. annoyance factor).

Yeah, you see that with modern cars "LED running lights" or "LED tail lights" when they appear on TV - sometimes they appear to blink instead of being continuous because of harmonies between the frame rate and the LED blink frequency.

Case fans are low quality, always have to replace them. In fact I've got one 140mm fan I need to replace. I have the replacement fan but since replacement fan arrived the one failing quit making noise.
Give me coffee to change the things I can and wine to accept the things I cannot!

can believe case fans are almost all crap when they only cost a couple of dollars.
the branded ones cost more, but I've bought $2 fans from china identical to $25+ branded ones (everything but the logo, often it'll have half the logo - that unique shaped area where the logo goes.)
anyway, the case really fan only makes a few deg difference, no hurry.

Has anyone realised that Code Project is storing passwords in plain text? I just went to reset my password and had it emailed to me 
I had expected better than this, especially from a site that includes so many security-based articles in their newsletter. Let's hope this gets fixed soon...

No, they don't. The one that was sent to you is a temporary value which you can use to log in and change your "real" password when you have forgotten it.
Think about it: You have forgotten your password.
You tell the site this.
There are four options here:
1) It emails you with a message which says "OK, We've changed it" but doesn't tell you what to.
You can't log in.
2) It changes it and doesn't tell you what to.
You can't log in.
3) It automatically logs you in to change it.
You get very annoyed because I just stole your account.
4) It emails you a new password so you can log in, provided you have access to your registered email address.
You can log in if you are you, not if you are me.
Only the last one retains any security and allows you to forget your password.

5) Emails a message that says it was changed and the email has the password but in fact it doesn't. It does however have a customer support telephone line that rings on a conference room phone that absolutely no one ever answers.

6) I had this one a couple of years ago, change your password and get a letter a week later by traditional snail mail containing your new password. You've guessed it, government
Since it was government I think I needed that password pretty bad too, I'm thinking it was something with moving/new house/mortgage...

The OP DID read through the email quickly. It just so happened that the random new password was the SAME password as OP's original password.

Like anyone else with and degree of competence, your password is stored as a hash of the original and cannot be recovered.
Even if a site stored your password encrypted (not hashed), it is best to consider it totally insecure.
