A service generally doesn't have UI. It's hard to say more, without knowing what you've tried, what code causes the error, and what 'none of which have worked' means.

Here is the error message

ActiveX control '8856f961-340a-11d0-a96b-00c04fd705a2' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment.

and that is happening when the service tries to execute the webbrowser1.navigate("url")

did you check the permissions?i think the control is corrupt,why dont you use the default .net 2.0 control or the url is not in the proper format , make sure it starts with "http://"

STA is actually required by some components, I am pretty sure that none of what you're suggesting will help.

You can set your app to run in STA, it's an attribute you add at the top level of your app. I forget the syntax, but google 'set STA VB.NET' and you're bound to find it.

Thanks everyone for all the information, but even with all that there is still nothing. Let me see if I can elaborate on what I am trying to do and maybe you guys have a better way of doing it and it can solve my problem.

I just need an application or service to browse to a certain page every five minutes. In my case it will be an asp page. Once the services browses to the page it just needs to close the and the asp page takes it from there and starts producing a grid. For instance when it connects properly the grid will show some green, but say the service gets stopped or the computer or server goes down then the grid will start showing red.

I hope that all made sense, if not just let me know and i will try to give some more info. I am just hoping someone can help.

I could be wrong, but I think the WebBrowser control needs to be on a form with a message pump in order to work. Since a Windows Service doesn't have a message pump, this could be what's causing your problem.

THe work around would be to not use a WebControl, but instead rewrite the code to use the HttpWebRequest methods instead.

I have a for next loop which forms an integral part of my app ,it uses the no of lines in a richtextbox , but whenever i run it on the debugger i get that 1 is greater than RichTextBox.Lines.Length,so is there any other way to get the proper no of lines in the richtextbox???? Mad | :mad:

The only way to do it is RTB.Lines.Length. What "proper" refers to depends on the definition of the word and put forth by the person demanding it.

What do you mean when you use "proper" in this context? A line in a RTB can be many screen-lines long. To the RTB, it's a string of text that ends with a CarriageReturn character.

I found a solution , i changed the code from For index = 0 to RTB.Length to For Each String in RTB.Lines() and it started working,what i meant by proper was,irrespective of the no of lines in the rtb ,rtb.length always returned 0 ,now that i've resolved it i don't think it really matters

Hi All!

I'm a newbie programmer developing a Text Editor with built-in Text-To-Speech Capabilities.

I am writing this application using the VB .NET Framework.

I am having trouble using the Redo() Method in my code. When I use the Redo() keyword in my RedoToolStripMenuItem_click procedure I get an error saying that "Redo is not a Member of System.Windows.Forms.TextBox". My line of code that generates the error is as follows:

txtEditor.ReDo()

TxtEditor is the textbox in which I am trying to implement the method. How can I use the Redo method to be able to complete the RedoToolStripMenuItem_click Procedure?

You must to use a RichTextBox to call the Redo method.

OK - very new. You can't invent keywords. there is no redo keyword. You need to write your own.

So, you need to keep track of the things you undo, so you can reapply them when you call redo.

i using datagridview to display data. i just have 2 column of record to display it. After i binidng the data inti datagridview,what i can see is the datagridview consist 2 column and remaining is the background of the datagridview.So, how can i do to add another blank column to fill the remaining space inside the datagridview? so the datagridview have 3 column and total width of the 3 column is equal to the width of the datagridview ?

i think you can't add more columns to a binded datagridview, but why don't you set the width of last column to fill the empty space

problem running vb6 application in client side

Hey Experts thanks in advance.
I am trying a client server application in vb6 using Winsock. The application works well on system where vb6 is installed but the problem i can't run the applications on clients in which vb6 hasn't been installed.
When i load the application it gives some sort of error message like winsock can't be detected or loaded.

I tried to recover by registering winsock from the command promt using
regsvr32/{path}/winsock.dll but again it can't be registered and error message is displayed "i.e winsock was registered but the entry point can't be detected !
And the application doesn't work
So plz anyone help me. Once again thanks in advance....

Hi I am new to .NET and just started coding in vb.net. I have a form (main form)that has a bound datagridview and when I click on one of the rows, I find the record and display it on a new form(update form). The textboxes in this new form are also bound to the same dataset. When I make changes to this record on this form, I am able to change the actual data in the database, but my row in the datagridview in the previous form does not change. I have to show the previous form to show the changes I made. How do I reflect my changes from my update form to just one row in the datagridview?

Please help! I tried everything, but nothing helps..

Does anyone know how to select a specific row in a datagrid without having to click on the grey box to the left of each row?

IE if I have a datagrid "My_DataGrid" that looks like below:

Line# Name
1 Bob
2 Joe

If I use the code below and click anyware on the data Grid (Ie on the Joe field) I get UserName = Bob

If I click on the Grey Box to the left of Joe I get UserName = Joe

Any Ideas
