I don't think resolution is sent with HTTP headers...I've looked at the HTTP_USER_AGENT, etc
But you can use javascript:
window.screen.width
I believe returns the resolution width of the screen...
You could maybe have your scripts determine width/height on on firts visit and store the resolution settings in a cookie for the session???

I'm new so please excuse my lack of savy. I first came to the Code Project site because I wanted to learn JavaScript but I dont know if this is really a js task. I've found some HTML code for a drop down list where a user can choose their country.
Example:

<option value="">Country...</option>
<option value="Afganistan">Afghanistan</option>
<!-- Followed by rest of list in alphabetical order -->
</select>

How can I get any country selected from the list
to be associated with one of five world postage zones and the user taken to a page of information related to that zone?
I'd be grateful for any advice on this or pointers to information.

You don't say what your backend server technology is, so this is going to be generic.
When the user submits this page back to the server, the server can have a lookup mechanism where it will look up the country and see what postal zone it is in. The lookup may be an in memory table of somesort, or it may be a database lookup and so on. Once the server knows the postal zone it can redirect the user to the appropriate page.

There is little backend server technology that I have any significant access to or control of, other than what I can set up within the basic web space provided by my ISP as a part of my ADSL subscription. I was hoping that the process could be handled from there, or even more usefully within the code of the pages themselves. If not, the process I'm trying to set up will be outside my scope for a while yet
If I already have javascript on my pages that can call a file from a remote location depending on what choice someone browsing the page makes, then it seems possible that a user could, by similar methods, make a choice from a list populated by a hundred options, which then calls one of 4 possible explanatory html pages from my web-space. Trouble is, if such a possibility exists, I don't yet know how to achieve it. Hence my original question.

You have a list of countries...and when any of those countries is selected you want to redirect to an HTML page for the zone in which that country falls under???

<option value="zone_1">Canada<option/>
<option value="zone_1">USA<option/>
<option value="zone_3">UK<option/>
</select>
What this code is doing:
Whenever a option is selected the onchange event is fired and a redirection takes place.
The code assumes you have the 5 global postal zones saved as HTML files, such as: zone_3.html that is why the value of each option for that country is zone_1, etc...in the above example I assume that Canada and the US are the same postal zone???

Yes, that's more or less it. Probably a little more but I need to take it one step at a time. Thankfully the solution you suggest seems at first glance to be within my current range of comprehension. If you don't need the country name anymore, you can set value=Zone instead of the country name.
Then bring up the associated page matching the Zone value.

Drop down lists only return a value, which in your case is the country name, so any extra information like the postage zone should be included in the value, and extracted from there.
for example , Suppose that Afghanistan is in the postage region 1 an Albania in region 2
your list will look something like:
Country...
Afghanistan
Afghanistan
then get the selected value and do some string manipulations like SubString to separate the Postage zone value from the country name, if you're using .NET you can use SPLIT("_") and you'll get an array of two items, the first Item includes the zone ID and the second contains the name.

Thanks a lot. This looks like a promising method, though I don't know much about the use of .NET at this stage. I'll try it and see how I manage.

I want to access some documents in a WebDAV folder using my web application.
The word document or xls document to be accessed is in a WebDAV folder. I want to provide option for the user to open, edit and save the documents in the webdav folder through my web application. The document names are displayed in a web page and when user clicks on the document name, the document is opened from the webdav folder in a new browser window - the document is opened using word plugin of IE. Now after user makes some changes when user clicks on 'Save' button word tries to save the document in its temporary folder rather in the Web DAV folder. I do not want the user to use the 'Save As' option of word to save the document in web dav folder. Kindly let me know what extra handling i should make so that the MS Word active x component shall open the document as if it is opening it from Web Dav Folder.
When the document is opened from IE using 'Open as Web Fodler' option, word allows to save the changes in web folder with simply 'Save' option. I want to simulate the same method when user opens the document using my web application.
Please let me know how is this possible.

Hey,
I was browsing some articles on here (Code Project) and i noticed that with an article called Refresh Portion Of Your Web Page Using XMLHTTP the page had at the top of it a link to download the sample source files. The link is an actual link to the file but it would not let me download the file until i had logged in. I wish to replicate this with my company's website. I use ASP and the Session object for the session data. Any suggests for how i could do this?

All you do is have a check for a logged in user at the start of the download page. If they are not logged in redirect to the log in page and when successfully logged in redirect back to the page they came from

Thats fine and i have done that. But the example i was talking about has the actual url to the file protected. so if you try to go to the zip directly and you arent logged in then you get redirected

this may sound stupid....and pointless.....and their are probably other things to be doing other than this.....but I'd like to know for my own personal reasons.....
I'm looking at java/javascript/java applet code for being able to log/extract the REAL IP address of a computer that connects to my website. I wnat to be able to get teh IP address issued to that user by their ISP, and NOT the IP address of the proxy or socks server they are using.
I would also like to be able to extract any internal network IP address that they are using at the same time....does anyone know the code to be able to do this?
I hope someone can help cause this is driving me nuts.....

Hi,
I want to run the calculator.exe file from my c# webapp.I did this by using the hyperlink control and the location of the exe is the navigate url and is working nice.
But it gives the dialog box telling ,'one or more files can harm your computer ...' since it is opening on the IE. if i click the open button the calc.exe is opened.
i want to eliminate /deactivate the asking dialog box and directly open the calculator exe thru c# webapp .
Could u please tell me how can i do that.

there is an static class shell in asp.net . You can use directly by writing shell class and pass the various parameter to it . Shell class provide you the facility to run any command or exe to run on your asp.net code .

How do I set up DIV tags so I can divide up my page into 3 rows - the top and bottom rows being fixed heights and the center row varying according to the height of the main browser window. I have got something like this in FP but it is not 100% satisfactory, eventually the footer gets lost.
