I use the mouse but wish I could break the habit and use the keys more. These guys however think that they will save the world with an eyetracking device...

I use a standard optical mouse, that is until they come up with a Bluetooth brain-implant, so that I can "think" my code into the editor... the only problem (as a man of course, according to a couple of surveys I have heard of/read) is when I start day dreaming of the desert Island and the women...;P
I wonder what will appear in the editor
bum... and I thought I´d got rid of all the bugs

The topic made me remember a post of mine (A question for a good keyboard brand!), and the fact that I got so busy that I didn't answer others help.
However I was unable to find any of the brands they named, but I thank them all here. Excuse me I am not impolite I just was really really busy, so thankyou all, if any of you can see this .

I went to some shops, but they had none of the models . None of them were imported to my country(!!). So I just cleaned my keyboard, and reuse it. (Why should I change it while I'll get a similar one?!)
Here I can buy logitech or a mark similar, I might go and buy it, if my keyboard gets more tight.
I wish IBM reproduce such keboard again.
Meanwhile, About a post that someone looked in google to find an abreviation, I have a tool (dictionary) called Babylon, which can find abbreviations easily if true glossary is installed.

I always use the keyboard until it's phyically impossible. It's just so much faster, even designing WinForms (save for actually putting the objects on the form).
Anyone else find this easier and quicker?

Well, I don't use the keyboard when using the form designer (not that I use the form designer that much) but it drives me nuts when I see people clicking on the VS toolbar to compile, or right clicking to set a breakpoint, etc. Learn the friggin' shortcuts, or assign your own, like I do.
You'd think programmers, that are trying to improve the productivity of the world (maybe) would look first at enhancing their own productivity!

I agree... but have been humbled in the past year by going through the subtle changes to keyboard commands introduced with VS2003 and then again in VS2005. There are some functions i will always go to the toolbar for now, since going back and forth between these IDEs means i'd constantly be doing the wrong thing otherwise.

I got "burned" on that once, years and years ago. I now map all the shortcuts I use to my own keystrokes and restore the behavior of others, like Alt-Tab. That stupid dialog that pops up listing the open files in VS2005 was somebody's idiotic idea. Useful, sure, but don't map it to the STANDARD keystroke used for the last 20 years!
I also turn the toolbars off. One more line of code on the screen!

I use the keyboard as much as possible in VC, and over the years I've built up my personal list of tweaks that let me do stuff faster. I even have a .reg file that has all my toolbar/keyboard customizations, and the first thing I do after installing VC is import that reg file.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to share the registry keys where they store all of that stuff? It seems like every time I install an add-in, or remove one, Studio loses all of my customizations.

In VC 6, you can save everything under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Devstudio\6.0
Not sure about VC 7. I think VC8 has an export/import settings feature built in (or maybe it's a power toy)

I use a ball mouse at work (at least it's wireless) because that is what they gave me.
I use a ball mouse (corded) at home because optical mice refuse to work with my ancient, 8 year old Belkin KVM (PS/2, serial only) and I am too cheap to get a newer KVM since this one works. But, the mouse is at least an Intellimouse with the center wheel.
Now on my laptop, I have a pair of corded optical mice. Again, I'm too cheap to get a cordless one. It also has an "eraser nub" mouse, but I hardly use that.

I can get by with 'em, but the touch pad is much preferable... provided it's configured to ignore touches while i'm typing, and allows me to click by tapping. Gestures may not make much sense with a mouse, but are perfect for touch pads.
Then again, there are actually people out there who prefer those little joystick-on-a-gamepad things to a proper mouse when playing FPS. Insanity!

Do any trackpads let you right-click by tapping two fingers anymore? I used a Sony Vaio years ago (probably made in 1998) that had that feature, and the handful of laptops I've used since then all lack it.

I'm using an optical but will get a laser one if this one ever goes bad. It's still hanging in there so far.
