Hi,
How can I get the URL full path of a file (eg image file) that is in the form: http://MyHost/MySite/Images/Product.jpg. I use ResolveURL function but it return a path without host name.

You can get the host name from the Request.Url.Host property.

hi, my web.config file is like this

Now if i use the <location > element as bove i get this error
It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.
However if i remove the location element my app works fine
Any help is appreciated,

because you are crossing the app boundries....Location node is normally used to cross the boundries for example
you want to distinguish roles/authorization on basis of ordinary and admin user.
You can also replicate the same error
a) if you keep two confifg file in your project AND
b) remove location node details....

I created the following SQL script to check if a record exists:
IF (EXISTS (SELECT LevelName FROM dbo.by27_Levels WHERE LOWER(@LevelName) = LOWER(LevelName)))
Return (1)
ELSE
Return (0)
And I also found in a web page another solution:
IF EXISTS(SELECT 1 FROM TABLENAME WHERE LevelName=@LevelName)
SELECT 1
ELSE
SELECT 0
- Which approach should I use?
- Why "SELECT 1 FROM"?
- And when should I use SELECT or RETURN?
All I need is to know if the record exists ... nothing else.
I will use this procedure on an ASP.NET 2.0 / C# web site.
I am not sure if this important but anyway ...

Second approach; Select 1 is used to minimize the processor workload (there is no need to return the fields)
you could also consider:
SELECT count(*) AS Results FROM dbo.by27_Levels WHERE LOWER(@LevelName) = LOWER(LevelName)

i have 5 textboxes(empid,date,intime,outtime,workingtime) and submittbutton
now i enter some integer value in the textboxes
now my query is
empid,date is already entered in database.i dont want enter same empid,date
how can i compared parricular empid,date exist or not.if that empid,date exists it will show error

I have a datagrid, which holds item name, item price, and its image(all from SQL Server database), what I need is when the user clicks on the image, I need the (id) for the item to be carried to the new page where I want to show more details about the item (expiry date, ...)

Assume you have two forms form1.aspx and form2.aspx. now you want all the controls of form1.aspx can be retrieve in form2.aspx, in this situation you can use form2.aspx.

In 2.0 we have three options and all come with its +/-ve
A) Response.redirect
-ve : round trips, value can not be passed across pages
b) Server.Transfer
-ve : Loose browser history, but good for value pass and no round trip
C) PostBackUrl
New feature in 2.0 and in my views, you should use this only when you need to transfer from page a to b. Because in background it creates all the page events of page a  ...
So use wisely and smartly...

I will also post this in VB forum. I have a general question. I want to create a "webbased, interactive, and collaborative classroom learning tool". I believe ASP would be a good language for this. However, I also have a strong need to become proficient in VB. My application will be a type of question and answer game to be used in the classroom.
Here is my question; If I first build it entirely VB.net as a VB application, how easy is it to then move it to the Web using ASP?
You can tell from my question, I am not an expert in either or I wouldn't be asking. I know some VB but no ASP. I have six months to work on this so I am somewhat confident I can do whatever needs to be done.

i am working on project which is having 10 modules already,used ASP.net,vb.net for coding.in this new technologies are not included like websevices,ajax.
Now i am including new module.i want to use c# for coding,is it possible to integrate with existing modules others are used vb.net.
and what thenew technologies i can use ,which can make my screen appearence rich and makes my job easier, Please send the possibilities

Hi,
you can always integrate VB.NET and C# assemblies together if they maintain CTS properly.
For new technologies, I can say that you are well aware of AJAX and WebService. What I can say that you try scriptoculous and dojo libraries for rich user interface.

To learn about ajax technology please search google. you will definitely get good links.
The libraries that I had mentioned are javascript libraries with inbuilt AJAX and effect in it. It will make your life easy for good looks of your pages.

Scriptaculous[^]
Dojo[^]
Dojo will give you better effects than Scriptaculous, but Scriptaculous is easier to use.
Both the libraries are free.

Hai Friends,
I have a Requirement ,in that Dynamically Textboxes and Dropdowns will be generated
then page will become large, when i click on any dropdownlist(autopostback = true)
it is being post backed, its again starting from page begining
agin i am going to that dropdownlist position,again doing some thing
not doing like this,when i click on it, post back should be done and ctrl should be there only,is there any solution for it?
actually iam using SMARTNAVIGATION = TRUE,It is working fine, postback is done, ctrl is there only
but some times ,it is giving problems some times
we can use ajax for it
but other than that is there any solution for it?

why not... create web request thru javascript. But honestly speaking as per my understading we are all buying same fruits but with different color...
AJAX, POSTBACKURL, XMLHTTPRequest all feature do the same job more and less....
what is your view...
