It's not that I love silverlight. I just think if I make a suggestion, and the site admin offers to let me take a stab at it, it would be beyond hypocritical to turn down the offer if I thought I had the skills to put my money where my mouth is.

As per the FAQ for reputation points:
The more a member's reputation increases within a given category, the more their votes count towards other members when voting on items within that reputation category.
For example, a member with a high Authority ranking (someone who answers a lot of questions) but a low Author ranking (they don't post many articles) will have their vote counted strongly when voting on answers, but not so strongly when voting on articles
Now, i assume that the ranking is Bronze-Silver-Gold-Platinum...
Based on this, if one Platinum debator votes 5 for a posted message and other platinum debator votes 1 for the same posted message, then overall votes status should be 3/5 (2 votes), right?
From last few days, i had observed that when i try to upvote 1/5 (1 vote) status message, it squares up to 1.44/5 (2 votes)
Considering my debator reputation (i.e. Platinum), won't my vote should have made it 3/5?
It looks like my platinum reputation is not powerful enough!

I think they may be doing it by reputation *points* rather than just a simple "level" (like platinum).

Lets say if that's the case. Debator points are considered while giving a weightage... I have around 4400 debator points and the ratio is 8(1/5 -> 1.44/5), the other person should have around 4400*8 = 35200 debator poitns.
Now, picking particular incident, i found that in ASP.NET forum this happened with me for a message (not an answer). Not too many big shots (whose debator points are around 32K or more) visit there... and i have a wild guess of who the other member was based on the message conversation  ... i dont find *debators total points* come into play.
Further, the ratio is constant from couple of weeks or so, inspite of more points gained. It doesn't look like points ratio (which can be any real number)... it looks like an exact integer in play.

maybe it's not the platinum or gold status but the actual points that count
and if the 1 vote was from someone like JOSP or CG or DD you lose big time

IMO which reputation component is used is not always obvious.
To turn one vote of 1 into an average of 1.44, the original must have been 8 times stronger than the second,
as (1*8 + 5*1)/(8 + 1)=13/9=1.44
So it was a platinum one and a white/bronze five that got combined.

Thats was what i tried to convey... since i was a Platinum in Debator... why my vote was considered as a White/Bronze when i tried to upvote a general forum message that had 1/5 (1 vote)?

if i upvote 1/1 (1 vote) -> 1.44/5 (2 votes)... and all after i too hold a platinum status!

Few days back, when there was a re-calculation of reputation points, lots of people(me too!) found that organiser points took a good dip!... Chris concluded, might be Reported articles/messages might be the reason.
It looks like missing Reported articles/message is not the only reason. I found, whenever a message (that adds a point in Debator category) gets voted up, 1 organiser point is awarded to the poster.
So overall, in case of Up-vote +5*weightage added in debator points & +1 added in Organiser points for the OP who posted the message.
As per FAQ, i don't find this mentioned. Why does a Poster gets 1 point of organising category when he did not do anything related to it?

That was a little convoluted. Can I assume that you are asking:
"Does a member who posts a message get Organiser points if someone votes on their message?"
If so, the answer is "No, they don't", and "I'll check to make sure they don't".

Chris, it seems a lot of the people who care, are reading but not understanding the table; basically because:
1. it sometimes is overly verbose;
2. on occasion it seems really wrong;
3. and you are not doing what it says (You're doing much better, but not clearly saying so). I'd suggest you explicitly show the weight effect.
So rather than
1. The author of an answer receives points due to their answer being up-voted by another member (under Quick Answers). --> 5
2. A member receives points for answering another member's question (under Quick Answers). --> 10
3. A member down-votes a message in a general discussion forum. --> -2
WTF? who is loosing points here?
I'd say (always referring to the recipient as "A"):
1. an answer by A gets up-voted by B (under Quick Answers). --> 5 * authority(B)
2. Member A posts answer to B's question (under Quick Answers). --> 10 * 1
3. Message by A gets down-voted by B (in general discussion forum) --> -2 * 1
where authority(X), author(X), debator(X), ... are similar weight functions that map a particular
reputation component's color of member X to a weight factor (white/bronze=1, silver=2, gold=4, platinum=8).
And * 1 indicates no weight applies.
FWIW: if you're interested and provide source code, I'd be willing to give it a go.
