So, every now and then I get this urge to be helpful. Pretty soon, each time, I realize I am quite useless. But, each time, in this little duration I notice few things that I don't like.
I know ranting about SO is, well, customary here. But still, there is one thing I noticed which I think is blatantly wrong. People there just answer what is asked for. Rarely you get a response stating, "Why not do it this way, it's better?".
Question is, is it just a matter of website culture or the good being lurk here? Regardless of fact that Q & A here is beyond compare to SO.

Culture, I think.
They seem to not actually care much about what the user is trying to do - just that they get "upvotes" for the answer they give - so giving an alternative solution that the user didn't ask for is less likely because it won't get the votes they want. And besides, if you don't "toe the party line" and you have the temerity to disagree with the clique by (for example) presenting a better solution than they did, your posts somehow mysteriously disappear from time to time...

Well, it is evident that I am not a genius nor I am an average guy. But, I have posted few times stating what you want is not what is correct and I my response or comment was never dealt with. As stupid as I am, I know I was right.
It is very interesting that I told someone here at CP that you shouldn't be doing this and OP came up with response that he already knows that but he is being forced to do things a certain way. what I like here is that people don't blindly tell you how to tip a cow. They tell you it's difficult if not impossible.

Really? I'm always seeing people "answering" the question by telling the asker they shouldn't do that, or they really need to be doing this or that, instead of just answering the question asked.
Same here, of course.
Annoying.
If someone wants to offer other methods or suggestions, do it after answering the actual question. The asker might have a reason for doing it the way you don't think they should.

I don't know but majority responses are pretty useless in long run. Of course SO is a great resource for rare issues but for trivial problem that beginners face, it sucks.

I (we?) didn't just came here to find solution to specific problem but to learn and teach...
So when someone come up with a question of "how to read registry from JavaScript" - it's obvious that he missing some important part of the coding thing, so instead of just telling him "No, you can't", you have to explain him the reasons for you no and also tell him that his looking to the wrong direction while searching for solution...

Please note: "No, You can't" is NOT the correct answer to the question, even if you take the 'just answer what is asked for' approach: the OP asked for 'how', hence you have to explain the reason why he/she cannot do that (and you might also suggest an alternative).

You right I was not too precise while phrasing the sample, but you got the idea...
I can show you a handful of questions where the OP ask for his/her homework solution - most cases are very simple for the experienced one, but in most cases there will be no answer here to that kind of question (except Griff's pre-design lecture). In SO the answer will be copy-pasted just to take the points and the OP is out of competition...

Here people more often than not suggest a 'better way' to do something. This is not my approach, however.
One big difference between Stack Overflow and Code Project is, in my opinion, the very purpose of the questions. SO folks do their better to make every question a reference one. CP folks, on the other hand, try to be immediately helpful to the OP. That's why similar ('duplicate') questions don't make sense there while do make sense here (my two cents).

I get just as many answers from SO as CP, though the contexts are quite different. SO is usually just-to-the-point code snippets with brief explanations (if you are lucky) whereas CP mostly returns articles/tutorials aimed at teaching concepts. More often than not, a snippet or two is what I prefer, but I try to always bookmark any relevant CP articles for later reading.
