This[^] and this[^] piss all over the itoy, and have an operating system that doesn't rely on being plugged into a bloatware app on a PC (and cute little things like an accessible file system, and default programs -- you know, things like you get with a real computer operating system).
There are loads of e-book readers for 'droid, so you get to pick the one you like best -- or you can do what I did: install several and use them for different books (you don't have to copy in separate copies the books for each reader, like you do with the itoy).
Atcherley, if you buy both, it comes to about the same price as the itoy mini.
Onda has just released octa-core tablets/phablets, as well. They've got a very good rep, too, and a very active on-line user base.

I just got an Asus Transformer Pad TF701T...I love it except for one fly in the ointment...it has this mega irritating battery saving feature where it is constantly fiddling with the brightness of the screen...there's a workaround to make it go away but it never quite goes all the way away...
...I would have totally recommended it except for that. It has a 2560x1600 resolution screen at 300 pixels per inch...very sharp. Tegra 4 processor, blows away my old Tegra 2...2 gigs of ram, 32 gig internal SD Card and an external slot.

Do you like Android or iOS? Do you have an Android phone or iPhone? Do you want to install any and all 3rd party apps or are you have with the (admittedly huge) collection of Apple apps?
I personally prefer the iPad (mini and Air are both stunning pieces of hardware). I find I keep accidentally hitting buttons on Android devices while holding them, and I find the Android experience far less smooth than iOS.
However, the quality of Apple software in the last couple of years has taken a downward plunge.

Newfoundland Vasectomy
After having their 11th child, a Newfoundland couple decided that was enough as they could not afford a larger house. So the husband went to his doctor/veterinarian and told him that he and his wife didn't want to have any more children.
The doctor told him that there was a procedure called a vasectomy that could fix the problem but that it was expensive.
A less costly alternative, said the doctor, was to go home, get a firecracker, light it, put it in a beer can, then hold the can up to his ear and count to 10.
The Newfie said to the doctor, "I may not be the smartest man in the world, but I don't see how putting a firecracker in a beer can next to my ear is going to help me."
"Trust me," said the doctor.
So the man went home, lit a firecracker and put it in a beer can.
He held the can up to his ear and began to count:
"1"
"2"
"3"
"4"
"5"
at which point he paused, placed the beer can between his legs, and resumed counting on his other hand.
This procedure also works in Quebec and some parts of Saskatchewan.
