Hi All,

Did I see a thing about Google planning to merge Chrome & Android in today's Daily News? If I did does that mean Android getting bloated with STUFF it doesn't need (it's a mobile OS come on) or Chrome users (?, never met any in the wild!) loosing features. The Daily News mail got eaten before I could read the article. Also Chrome books were they based on Intel or another processor? I'm guessing it was a shell on Linux...

You realise that all mobile and "desktop" OSs will need to merge sooner or later (and it's becoming more a case of sooner rather than later).

Desktop OSs are generally at the point where they do what we need them to do with room left over. Mobile devices are rapidly becoming as powerful as desktops. In fact my phone is already more powerful than my old laptops. We're moving to a point where your phone or tablet will be your desktop.

Hmmm, yes, they can merge, I must admit I am picky about keyboards (give me a full size, proper keys) proper mouse and monitor 17" smallest I can use. Admit it you prefer a full desktop for serious work (Don't you?). The actual thing of the everything, everywhere is good and needed but if I get handed a phone and told to get coding.... Unsure | :~

You may be slightly missing the point.

Your phone won't be your input device. Your phone will simply be storage and processing. Wired or wireless (if Intel has its way) connections to keyboard, mouse, monitor and charging will be in place. You sit your phone on the charging pad and it connects to the peripherals and you're working in your normal desktop setup. Except your box is your phone.

Okay! I just had fears of having to type on a touch sensitive screen (Scars mean my fingers don't work too well!), there is always the issue of who owns what if you are having to use your phone I suppose.

Nope. Maybe in 10 years mobile devices will be able to host 1-2 VMs with several instances of your favorite IDE and web browser with 20+ opened tabs running in background while you play GTA V in foreground at 60+ FPS, but by that time I'll be asking much more from my working machine.

Yeah sure, you can use phone to create few pie charts, but when you need compile several hundred thousand lines of code all you want is a decent desktop machine.
