The Weird and The Wonderful

The Weird and The Wonderful forum is a place to post Coding Horrors, Worst Practices, and the occasional flash of brilliance.

We all come across code that simply boggles the mind. Lazy kludges, embarrassing mistakes, horrid workarounds and developers just not quite getting it. And then somedays we come across - or write - the truly sublime.

Post your Best, your worst, and your most interesting. But please - no programming questions . This forum is purely for amusement and discussions on code snippets. All actual programming questions will be removed.

Haha.. this is funny - not! I've come across this all the time. The problem "back then" were application designers that had no idea, zilch, nada; about database structures. Yet, here we are in 2018 and I still see the same mistakes. Primary key every table with an auto-fill ID column. Yes, you have a primary key, congratulations! But what's the point if you don't have a reference to the ID from another table? Did someone forget that the ID Primary Key column is a machine necessity, if at all? Like who care my next record starts with ID 2001!? A true Primary Key is one created based on data "snippets" off other columns in the table. Yeah baby... bring back Excel databases! Confused | Roll eyes |
Just do what I do when databases have no relations... DROP DATABASE.. oh but don't forget to save your data first. Blush | :O
