in form2 there is also button than open form3
in form3 there is close button
when i click on it
it close both form2 and 3
i want only to close form3 and let form2 opened?
how can i do this?

i don get your problem. with form1, form2 n form3 as u describe, this code works for me the way u want. assume each form has a button1:

Please let me know the cursor attributes of the data recieved by telnet using Winsock. I mean the cursor location is updatebale or just readonly. For example if we connect to the server , it returns UserName : ABCDEF
Here the cursor atteched to UserName is read only & the cursor attached to ABCDEF is read write where in one can change the contents.

Hi all!
I am currently trying to create some simple interactive games using VB 6. I came across this Map OLE control whereby when the user clicks on certain region of a picture, the program will be able to detect and pop a msg out.
However this OLE control can't seem to load on my VB 6 because it was meant for VB 4.
Much help is needed here.

Hi,
There are difference ways to patch an application. The easiest way is when none of the interfaces of your objects have changed. Say, you just changed a line like "a = a+1" to "a = a+2", that's not a big change. So you may consider just sending out a new dll or exe which can be copied directly over the old file.
If the interface of an object changes, say you change a method from "GetMyData (Byref a as integer)" to "GetMyData (Byref a as double). Would be consider a change to the interface of an object. Now all things which call GetMyData need to comply with this change. That can lead to all sorts of files being copied.
It seems to be the way these days that when you download update they just contain heaps of new files in their entirety. Back when I was a lad, we used a system called RTPatch. It used to work out which parts of files had changed and make a true "patch". Maybe its still around.
Hope this gives you a start along the path.

A patch is simply a setup which makes changes to an existing application
rather than instal a new one altogether.
If u break your interface, u need to compile your application again; if there are database changes (if the application uses databases), then you need a script(s) to duplicate all changes to your customers' databases - without losing their data!
This is your patch.

Hey,
I am trying to find a way to access the contents of a textbox in a child form from a control on the parent form and from other modules. Im sure this is simple and the info is out there all over the place but I have dug till I'm tired and can't find it. I found ALLOT of references on how to access parent objects from child forms but not the oposite.
Specificly what I am trying to do is control the wordwrap option of a textbox object in the currently active child form. I have made the textbox of the child form public but still when I try to reference the object I get squigly lines and it can't see it. Most likely because while Im writeing the code the child doesn't exist or something of that nature. Heres what I tried.
(the textbox I am referenceing is named textField)
activeMdiChild.textField.wordwrap = true
I get squiglies after the textField entry (because it doesn't exist yet I assume)
Is it possible to control objects by referencing the activeMdiChild at all?
In other words, is there any way to say (do "Xaction" to "Xobject" in the active mdi child form?

acecase i don c the problem. if Form1 is MDIParent n Form2 is MDIChild in the same project, Form2.Modifier defaults to Friend n this is enough.
this code works for me:

I'm sorry for not being more specific. You're rite, there is no problem doing that to the form before or when you instantiate it. What I should have been more cleare about was that I needed to access the childforms objects and properties for specific child forms that enheritted from that form and were currently showing. Someone on google helped me out on this though and frankly I am ashamed at how simple it is.
You use DirectCast e.g
DirectCast(me.mdiparent.ActiveMdiChild, _
form2).textBox1.WordWrap = true
to turn wordwrap on for the textbox in the currently active child form of type form2.

I'm developing an object hierarchy which is beginning to stabilize now, but still things pop-up where I need to add a property to an object. This buggers up my serialized data, as after I add the property, run the app and deserialize, the member count doesn't match.
Any suggestions on how to cope with this. I could do exports to comma sep to work around, but what do you do when you throw out a production system to the world. Writing data conversion stuff is a right PITA.

Yes, users will always change their minds so change is going to happen, but what I meant was that since the object heirarchy was in flux it should still be in the design phase. As it is now beginning to stabalise it can be moved to development phase. Changing it will still take some grunt work as you know already, but if it was changing so much before now I wonder why you were writing the code for it.

I think you have made assumptions about what this project is, its size and budget etc. I want to focus on how people cope with protecting their data using .NET serialization here. Let's just pretend it's a bedroom application, where we all cut code without UML, patterns and our refactoring handbook at the ready.
If you serialize data with comma sep as your chosen data format, its a trivial matter to deserialize a different number of members to that which was serialized. My only interest here is in trying to abide by .NET's serialization techniques, purely for learning purposes. If .NET is going to throw an exception every time I add another property to my objects, and if .NET offers no alternative, then I need to reconsider my data storage techniques.
Any talk of design and the like is off topic, and I've been there and done it all before, so I need to stick to what I don't know about, please.

I hate to say it but I think this is something that is going to be bad for you.
Just think of what it is like way back when they created Microsoft Word 1.0. You saved (serialize) something into a .doc format and saved it. Then after several years they significantly changed the doc format so that the new type is not backwards compatible. This is why they make document converters and why programs allow you to import data from older versions.
The only thing I can think of would be to add a version number to your class that will get serialized out then when you read it in you can change the deserialize method of the class to check for the version and handle any known conversions as needed. I can see this as getting a but messy though if you are going through many lifecycles.
Depending on what you are trying to do, if the formats are going to change a lot maybe you want to store your stuff in a database. This is simpler to add columns to and then as long as you don’t change the format of the existing data too much adding new things is not that hard. It is a catch 22 though. Using regular serialization is simpler because you have less to do, but in your case I think it is ending up being more of a pain than just putting a bit more work into making your storage mechanism a but more robust and less brittle.

I think I have a partially thought out solution...
If I serialize class A and want to add members to it then I should derive A using class B and add the members there. I can call A.Serialize from B.SerializeOldVersion, get me? Then I can B.Serialize and B.Deserialize and all my new members will be handled correcly.
OK, its partially thought out because if there are relating objects then those relationships could mudy the water somewhat. But in theory, this meets the "don't change your interfaces" school of thought. I think deriving would certainly be the way through to data conversion though, then effectively you can roll all the stuff up into one class again.
My ambitious thoughts are in this area though. As I am using SOAP format for serialization as oppose to binary format, at least for the time being (there's nothing quite like being able to see your megabytes of data in text format hehehe) well...to cut a long one short, there ought to be a structured way of massaging the data. i.e. you could write an XML parser, which a very good friend of ours on here has done recently, and insert the new fields where neccessary...then hey presto. I think there is definite potential in this approach.

Same as cnurse here, I don't understand exactly what you meen but I assume you are looking for a way to use advanced calc functions.
I am no math wizz and BY FAR no physics wizz so I can't tell you step by step how to get those calculations by any meens but if it helps I can tell you that there are no advanced math functions in vb (or any language i know of) so you will have to work out how it is done step by step useing basic functions (+ - * and /)and do it line by line.
For eg. if you want to multiply by a percentage vb doesn't have a way to say
100 plus 50% so you will have to devide the 50 (50%) by 100 then multiply it
dim number1 as integer = 100
dim number2 as integer = 50
dim result as integer
number2 = number2 / 100
result = number1 * number2
