Dropdownlist with predictive text

Can anybody help me I need code to make a drop down list with predictive text and the records will be coming from the database. I need to do this via ajax.

I have some predictive text for you: "If you don't elaborate some more on what you mean by 'predictive text' you are not going to get an answer".

A formal problem: The solution you posted actually is a clarification to your question and should go
a) as a comment like this one replying to Manfred, or
b) into your question as an edit.
That would keep your question in the "Unanswered questions" list.

On the topic:
I guess the dropdown list shall stay open while the user is typing?
And the more he is typing the less entries should be left in the list?
