Pagination Effect in java

request.getParameter("deptid")

I have a jsp which displays some data with the pagination effect.i kept the max page items 50 and my result contains total 90 items so it is showing 1-50 and 51-90.when i clicked on the 51-90(next) it is showing number format exception (null).Actually my requirement is when i clicked on the main department it has to show all the departments under the main department.The main department id is 92 .When i clicked on the 51-90(next) it is taking the department id as null and giving the number format exception can any one help me.
