ie7 gridview display issue

hi, i have a problem in gridview text display in ie7,however it works fine in ie8 and above.in ie7 if the text in gridview is long it gets wrapped to next line and goes on til many lines. but in ie8 and above text will be only in one line. i want it that way.how to fix the issue with ie7.i tried text-overflow:hidden,but no use.could anyone point me in right direction.
