I do not even know what it is that you would mean by downloading from a gridview. That does not make any sense at all.

you can save the files in your web server and then use the iframe attributes property to display the file. example below
iframeid.Attributes.Add("src", "http:\\webserver\directorylocation\filename.pdf")

you can store file path in db and retrive that path,
on datarow_bind event you can bind image link like for pdf,image etc..for diffrunt diffrunt type of files, and when user click on link than you can open that path...and file can be download..
