ASP.NET is a technology and C# is a programming language.
Better use Google for good explanation.

Asp.NET is framework for developing websites as well as web applications while c# is development language.

Both is totally different.

You can use C# as back-end language for asp.net applications.

Seeing that you are very new to .Net, I would recommend you pick up a medium to advanced level book on .Net. Choose a book that includes lots of C# and a chapter or two on Asp.Net. You will then be able to understand the differences between these two.
