I have been asked by our local Stock Car Racing Club to build a cost effective Racetrack System . This should keep track of the cars position relative to each other, as they race around the track. I have tried a few things and eventually used the IR Tx/Rx Beam which is used in remote controls, to pick up data signals from the cars. This system is very cheap, and works very well, if you are racing a span of oxen. Does anybody know what else I can try, something with at least 9600 Baud or higher, and cost effective.

What I have tried:

IR beam as used in remote control systems (max Baud is 2400).

Don't "bump" your question: it's rude, arrogant, unnecessary, and doesn't help you get a faster answer. By all means add info, but just editing it to get it back to the top of the "unanswered" list is just saying "I'm more important than anyone else, so deal with *MY* question and ignore the rest".
And so is everybody else, and everybody else's questions. If everyone was this thoughtless and rude, you'd never get an answer to anything, because all we'd be able to see would be 100 pages of idiots bumping all the real questions to page 100+
All you do is annoy people, and get them to deliberately not even look at your question, much less answer it.

I am not sure what you mean by bumping a question. Could you explain plse.

There are very many ways of doing it, which all depend on the "exact" requirements, level of accuracy and how much you are willing to spend like:
1) laser tracking
2) RFID tags
3) Radar tracking

I would like to know if there are alternatives to the three posibilaties that you mention, something with a baudrate of 9600 or higher.

Use your own transceivers.

You're welcome.

Custom devices are more mainstream these days; to contract or DIY. (Also more secure).
