Hello, I'm trying to make up a membership website. I have no website experience, but I'm working with frontpage, I signed up for a web hosting service that includes a database, and I have a few pages so far that i'm fairly happy with. I've got library books and internet resources to help me through it.
My biggest stumbling block is the membership part, which brought me to your website. I don't have the software that you mentioned, but if it's required I can buy it. Can you tell me if there's a way for me to start out without purchasing any expensive software, until I have enough members to know if it's going to be worth putting money into? Also, even if I do buy the software, is it unrealistic for me to think I can start and maintain a project like this with no experience, or will basic research and some work get me through it okay?
Thanks for whatever information you can provide.

Using FrontPage is probably not your best choice, it doesn't have much in the way of programmability, and the html it generates is sloppy.

.NET has what you are looking for built into it, for free. (.NET is free, Visual Studio Web Developer is Free, there are lots of free databases).

There are a lot of things you can do from there.

However, it is unclear if you are looking for guidance on where to go from here, or someone to do it for you.
